This Feels Silly, But Then Lots of Things Do
So I have been thinking about this blog for at least 4 years, ever since the blog craze of 2006 hit, and maybe a little before. But I have this thing, that I think a lot of people have, with the whole social media concept. Texting, facebook, email, blogging, etc etc. On one hand I love it-it does simplify my life in a lot of ways. But on the other, I sort of hate it. I have very few real conversations with anyone outside my immediate family these days (such conversations as they are-realize I spend most of my day with a 2 year old and an 8 month old:)) Because it seems like such a chore to even pick up the phone and have to have small talk with somebody! I would rather just bypass all that and text them. And then there is also the whole vague feeling of, since it's so easy to keep up with everyone I have ever seen in my entire conscious life, am I supposed to do so? And finally, the classic mental turmoil over why does twitter and facebook make me feel like everyone needs to know what I am having for breakfast? So I have been a bit loathe to jump in. But, despite the inner debate, here I am. I think I finally feel that there is a worthwhile purpose to it: keeping a little bit of track on my family's life. I hope it serves this purpose (and maybe some others too; we will see) but only time will tell. Happy Blogging?

Hi Veronica,
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across this page...followed the link from Pastor JD's post to "Too Many B's" and saw your comment and clicked on your profile thinking you might have a blog and ended up here. :)
First off...I'm sure you don't remember me but I sat, along with a couple girls from my small group, at your table at the lady's Christmas tea last year when you were very pregnant with Adon. :)
Anyways, my thoughts are totally in line with yours as far as all the social media stuff, and I do have a blog, but am really inconsistent with posting to it and often wonder what the purpose of it is. I think my main reason is to keep friends and family from home (Georgia) updated on us because I'm not the best at picking up the phone, but also (and this is why I thought I'd add my two cents here) there are sites I've come across before where with the click of a button and entering your blog address, it will take your blog and put it in scrapbook form with all of your posts, pictures, and the comments people leave, to print out similar to a photo book. So with four kids and a hectic life (I'd imagine) thought I'd just mention that that is an option for blogging as well...just document life and pictures as you go and then print it into a scrapbook at the end of the year.
So if you do decide to continue posting, whether pictures and stories of your sweet family, or just your thoughts (which I'm sure lots of ladies will be encouraged by), I'll be reading along! :)
